London Theatres, Museums and Galleries
London is an amazing cultural centre with all tastes catered for, albeit at a cost in some cases. You can see the world class Opera at the Royal Opera House. Or if you are looking for more 'Pop' Culture, try the concert venues at the O2 arena, or just soak up the ambience with the endless number of Street Musicians throughout Central London.
London Theatre is best known for both its West End Theatres and the Royal Shakespeare Company. There are a good range of smaller venues with diverse shows and it is worth looking through the listings to see what is on while you are there. But of course, if you have your heart set on seeing something special book well in advance of your arrival.
You will also find some of the best museums in the world in London. With wonderful and controversial exhibits like the Elgin Marbles and the Rosetta Stone, The British Museum is also not to be missed. But, warning - don't try and see it all, plan your visit, and then plan your next one. You should also note that London becomes very busy with tourists during the school holidays, and the museums become very busy, so again, try not to plan too much, as your day may take longer than anticipated.
There is also the Kensington Museums which include
- The Victoria and Albert Museum
- The Science Museum
- The Natural History Museum
As you would expect from London, there are big and imposing art galleries like the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. Modern art can be seen at the wonderful Tate Modern on the south of the river.
These are just a note of the big museums, there are lots of smaller specialist museums and galleries.
